Former UNC basketball star Tyler Hansbrough likens Mike Krzyzewski’s farewell tour to an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Everyone not from Durham, North Carolina is sick and tired of the Mike Krzyzewski farewell tour, ESPN and its affiliates notwithstanding.

The whole charade has become rather repetitive and college basketball fans are fatigued, as the longtime Duke head coach trots out onto a different court each game to receive the admiration and appreciation that he feels is so inherently due to him.

Cameron Crazies spent the offseason practicing how to properly bow to their beloved king, utilizing study halls and long lunches to prepare for the red carpet treatment Krzyzewski expected to receive upon announcing his retirement to the divine sounds of Cascada’s “Everytime We Touch.”

You almost have to assume that some of the analysts and color commentators of games involving Duke are getting bored, too, being tirelessly prompted to talk more about the things they said two or three nights prior. Former Dukies Jay Bilas and Jay Williams might be a couple of the exceptions to that, but I tend to give them a pass because I favor them over the majority of the “brotherhood.”

But another former player that I fancy an awful lot, four-year North Carolina starter Tyler Hansbrough, is one that doesn’t share their enthusiasm to celebrate the life and times of Coach K on a near-nightly basis.

In fact, in a recent interview, the consensus three-time first-team All-American likened the Krzyzewski farewell tour to an episode of “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” when a living character plans his own funeral in order to hear people say nice things about him. Both the show and Hansbrough’s comparison of it in reference to the Coach K lovefest are hilarious. Take a look:

To be clear, Mike Krzyzewski has had a phenomenal career and done a lot for the game of basketball. He’s won a ton of games and he’s got both the team and individual accolades — of him and his players — to show for it. He’s also got a laundry list of former players having a great deal of success in the professional ranks.

But like Tyler Hansbrough and so many others, I simply haven’t been a fan of this 24/7 faux funeral concession that’s been force-fed down our throats all season long. I congratulate him on all of his numerous successes and wish him the best in retirement, but give me Jon Scheyer and let’s get the hell on with it.
