Kim Kardashian recently made headlines for claiming in a Variety profile that “no one wants to work these days.” Plenty of people pushed back against her statement, including the ladies of The View.

During today’s episode of the ABC talk show, the panel dedicated an entire Hot Topics segment to Kardashian’s controversial interview, in which she offered women in business some advice: “Get off your fucking ass and work.”

Moderator Whoopi Goldberg pushed back, saying that Kardashian’s “blanket statement” wasn’t true.

Joy Behar agreed. “A leg up is what you need in that world,” she said, noting that her mother, the hardest-working person she’s ever met, worked as a sewing machine operator. “Who works harder than that?”

It helps to be born rich also, like she was,” Sunny Hostin pointed out. “She had a wealthy father, she had a mother who was a business manager, she’s pretty. I just think that people that are born on third base shouldn’t be talking about how easy it is to hit a home run.”

However, conservative guest co-host Stephanie Grisham said that as the daughter of a working single mother, said she was “inspired” by Kardashian’s words. She also called attention to Kardashian’s work on prison reform.

I think she has worked really, really hard, and I say kudos to her for getting a message out,” Grisham added.

Sara Haines somewhat agreed, arguing that “if you take the messenger away from the message, she’s not wrong.”

I think social media has had a massive influence on a generation of people who think things are easy that aren’t,” she concluded.

But in Behar’s opinion, these points were only one side of the story. “You just presented another aspect,” she said. “That doesn’t dismiss the fact that she sounded tone-deaf in that comment.”

The View airs weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
