Is Sylvie Brett Actress Kara Killmer Leaving 'Chicago Fire'?

Chicago Fire's latest episode on NBC (Season 10, Episode 15) focused on the difficulties Sylvie Brett (played by Kara Killmer) had being in a long-distance relationship with Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer).

The episode (which is streaming now on Peacock) saw Sylvie tell Violet Mikami (Hanako Greensmith), "I need to take some real time off," leaving fans concerned that Brett was following Casey to Portland—and Killmer was following Spencer off the show.

Luckily for Chicago Fire fans, co-showrunner Derek Haas has given some hints about the upcoming episodes of Season 10 that seem to give us some clarity about the character's future on the show.

Fans may be concerned that Brett will leave the show to be with Casey, but it seems that the opposite is true.

Haas gave a quote to TV Insider that hints that Casey may soon be coming back to Chicago Fire to spend some quality time with his long-distance lover.

Haas said: "I do think she's going to go see him before too long this season and hopefully, fingers and toes crossed, we can get a certain actor who has had a long experience on the show back for a guest appearance. That would be delightful."

Whether or not Spencer is returning, this seems to hint that Brett's storyline is far from over on the NBC series.

In fact, another Haas quote to the same outlet heavily suggests that Killmer will still be around when we get to the end of the season: "If everything breaks my way, we can get Jesse to come back and at least do an episode or two towards the end of the season." This is also good news for fans of "Brettsey," as it suggests that their relationship will be able to weather its difficulties for the next few episodes at least.

Rumors have been swirling about Brett leaving the show since at least the Season 10 midseason premiere in January, in which Brett left town to visit Portland. A month later, Chicago Fire fans were asking the same question after it was announced that the show had cast a new paramedic to recur in the second half of the season: Emma, as played by Caitlin Carver.

That character is set to join the NBC show in April, suggesting that if Brett is going to take a little time off the show before returning, it will be soon. But no plans have been announced to replace the character for good, which is a positive sign.

No confirmed details have been announced, but in another interview Haas hinted that the event of Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) and Severide's (Taylor Kinney) wedding may be a good time for the character to come back.

"I would be mortified if there was a wedding that didn't include Casey," he told Variety. He had previously said to Us Weekly: "Whenever Jesse wants to come do an episode with us, we will move mountains and earth to make that happen. We've been talking. We've got some ideas of what that would be."

Chicago Fire Season 10 airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.
