The MLB lockout has dragged on for four months at this point. It has left baseball fans searching for any scrap of good news they can find. Players are left in limbo, uncertain of when spring training will begin or, in the case of international players, if they can get stateside in time for the regular season. Free agents do not know where they will be yet, leaving even less time to set up housing for spring training and the season.

This is also leaving players with a lot of extra time on their hands. Los Angeles Dodgers reliever Brustar Graterol took that time off to do quite a bit of remodeling in the backyard of his home in Arizona.

While Graterol admitted that he was bored, he put that time to use. He built a pitcher’s mound in his backyard, something that would seemingly be a requirement for any pitcher. Graterol was not done as he also built a miniature golf course as well.

Those days of boredom may be over. Graterol is at the MLBPA camp and threw to batters on Tuesday. It may not be the same competitive level as spring training games at this point, but it is certainly better than throwing bullpens or playing catch in the backyard.

But even if Graterol is stuck at home, his days of boredom may be over. That new miniature golf course will take up at least a few hours a day. And one cannot know how much of his backyard has not been taken over by these projects – Graterol could add some more features that would allow him to make those long days that much shorter.
