DETROIT -- The Detroit Pistons will have to finish out Monday night’s game against the Atlanta Hawks without one of their top big men. Detroit ruled out Isaiah Stewart from the rest of the game prior to the start of the third quarter.
Stewart got hurt on a play at the 5:21 mark in the second quarter when Atlanta’s Clint Capela challenged a drive to the basket by Isaiah Livers. As Capela tried to absorb the contact from Livers, he fell backward and rolled over Stewart’s legs. The Pistons’ second-year center immediately jumped up and grabbed his knee before hopping over to the team’s bench on one leg. The Pistons’ medical staff and coaches immediately helped him to the locker room since he could not put any weight on his right knee.
The Pistons trailed the Hawks 44-42 but ended the half on a 24-12 run and went into the half with a 59-56 lead. They started newly acquired big man Marvin Bagley III in the third quarter.
Stewart has been having a solid season for the Pistons and has been coming along as of late. He has been averaging 8.4 points and 8.6 rebounds in 56 games this season. Over his last 11 games, though, he’s averaged 10.5 points and 9.4 rebounds on 52.6 percent shooting from the floor.
