Ademola Lookman has been superb this season for Leicester City, whilst on loan from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig. This has led to many Foxes fans hoping for the deal to become permanent and now Brendan Rodgers has provided an update on the situation.

The Northern Irishman was full of praise for the Nigerian winger, who has scored six goals and provided four assists this season to date. And has given an indication that if Lookman continues this form for the remainder of the season, then a permanent deal may be on the cards.

"“It’s something between the club, his representatives and his club that he is signed for. It’s something we have to look at. But he’s made the impact that I wanted in terms of his games and his goalscoring. He scored more goals and more assists in this period than in all of last season.“I said to get to that next level it’s all about efficiency. He’s clearly got the ability, but you have to produce the numbers when you’re an attacking player, and he’s definitely done that. Let’s see if he can finish in double figures by the end of the season, and then he will have had a really productive season. Then we can sit down and look at it then.”– Brendan Rodgers"

Lookman’s career has been all but straightforward with the winger struggling to play football for a club on a consistent basis. The 24-year-old has played for five clubs in his short career, and has yet to make 50 appearances for a single club, with his most being 49 for Charlton Athletic.

The loanee has had his best goal return in a season in four years, having not scored more than five goals in a campaign since the 2017/18 season. While Harvey Barnes has remained the first-choice left winger for the East Midlands side this season, Lookman has provided a brilliant spark on either flank, whether it be off the bench or starting.

With Leicester City beginning to recapture their form of the last two seasons, and a number of winnable fixtures in the run home, the RB Leipzig loanee has every chance to continue his good run of form and make an impact on the scoresheet.

Leicester City next face Rennes in the round of 16 in the UEFA Europa Conference League. The competition remains Leicester’s only hope of winning silverware this season after failing in their FA Cup defence.

A win in this competition, would seal a spot in the Europa League for LCFC for their third successive season. However the competition is far from straightforward with many clubs of similar stature to the Foxes all fighting to be the inaugural Conference League champions.
