Deland, Fla. – USC Upstate softball swept day two of the Stetson Invitational without surrendering a single run as they won 8-0 win over Bethune-Cookman and 6-0 over Stetson. Head coach Chris Hawkins earned his 998th and 999th wins today; should the Spartans come out with a win tomorrow over Florida International, Hawkins would earn his 1000th career win as a head coach.
The Spartans kicked off day two with an 8-0 win over Bethune-Cookman in the morning. Upstate quickly established a solid lead scoring five runs in the first three innings and closing out the game scoring the final three in the top of the sixth. Hannah Houge took the mound throwing 99 pitches through 6.0 innings surrendering only two hits and recording 10 strikeouts. Celeste Delorenzo and Madison Lanoux recorded two runs each while Casey Goguts, Marisa Soterakis, Summer Johnson, and Caroline Jacquay had one apiece.
Upstate continued to put the work in as they downed the tournament hosts 6-0 in the evening. The Spartans eased into the game scoring only two runs in the first five innings only to make a late game push scoring two runs in the sixth and seventh innings. Sarah Price, Madison Lanoux, and Peyton Darnell recorded two hits while Tiffany Domingue contributed two runs to the game. Alyssa Kelly threw 106 pitches through 7.0 innings, surrendering only two hits while recording nine strikeouts.

T1: Tiffany Domingue hit a double to left center giving Mady Lanoux enough time to reach home from second base.

T2: Celeste Delorenzo hit her first homerun of the season to give Upstate a 2-0 lead.

T3: Delorenzo hit a double with her next at bat and advanced to third on a fielding error by the Wildcats shortstop. Summer Johnson and Casey Goguts were able to come home with Delorenzo's hit.

T3: Delorenzo scored her second run of the game as Peyton Darnell hit a single through the right side.

T6: Mady Lanoux recorded her second hit of the day with a double to left center which resulted in two runs scored from Marisa Soterakis and Caroline Jacquay.
