The Detroit Red Wings are getting into the trade deadline season, and it’s worth thinking about what moves might be made. Last year, star forward Anthony Mantha was shipped off to the Washington Capitals in a blockbuster trade.

This year, the Detroit Red Wings may be shopping another one of the better players. Though it could be a big piece of the rebuild, Filip Zadina may need a change of scenery, and Steve Yzerman may prefer to shake things up a bit.

A recent article on 97.1, the Ticket’s Audacy site, talked about Zadina getting moved, and it sparked this idea as to what the potential return could be for the former first-round pick. It’s clear that Zadina has underwhelmed in his performance and has not lived up to the hype thus far.

When it comes to the trade deadline, Zadina might be someone who’s on the way out if the right offer comes up for Yzerman to spice things up. The Red Wings may be able to bring a nice haul back in return for Zadina, and he may become a trade chip quite fast.

Detroit Red Wings Filip Zadina may be on his way out.

It has not been the best season for Zadina at all; he’s struggled his way through the season. The Red Wings have changed things up and tried to fit him into the lineup in different spots with the hopes of kick-starting some offense.

They moved him down in the lineup, up in the lineup, and even changed his “role” around. No dice. It has not been the smoothest ride, as Zadina has logged 52 games played with just seven goals and ten assists for 17 total points on the 2021-22 season.

While he is on track to do so in 2021-22, he has not broken the 20-point threshold or the 10-goal threshold. He was advertised as a goal-scorer and sniper. It’s yet to be seen at a consistent rate. Frankly, the Red Wings may be best served to move on from Zadina and package him up and net the best possible return package.

If there’s one thing that the Red Wings fans should know by now, it’s that Steve Yzerman is a master of trading and roster movement. If Zadina is moved, Yzerman definitely sees something in the return package that is going to be beneficial to the future of this team.

That being said, draft capital would be big, and the minimum price on Zadina is likely going to be a second-round pick and more. It may be a high ask for someone who has not panned out. The Red Wings have to be careful, but trading Filip Zadina is really not the worst idea suggested.
