Rep. Tom Emmer needs to resign: Letter

To the editor:

"Standing for our Midwest Values" is a quote from the 6th District congressman from Minnesota on his home page.

Our congressman just agreed to, as a member of the Republican National Committee, a statement that said: "The Jan. 6, 2021 insurrection was legitimate political discourse." In other words, the people protesting at the insurrection were just expressing their opinions.

Christopher Wray, FBI director, called it "domestic terrorism." It needs to be noted that seven people lost their lives in the attack on the Capitol, 140 officers were injured, 725 people have been arrested, 165 pleaded guilty, 70 have been sentenced, 30 received prison time and others got probation.

Mike Pence, the former vice president, spoke at a conservative event and indicated that President Trump was wrong and that the will of the people is more important than one man's attempt to change an election through fraudulent means.

Our congressman, as an attorney, should stand up for our laws and especially the Constitution in the tgransfer of power instead of protesters on the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection. Further, our congressman voted to censure two Republican member on the Jan. 6th committee investigating the insurrection for simply trying to seek the truth.

The values of our congressman are in opposition to a democracy. Tom Emmer needs to resign.
