Green Cove Springs remembers Augusta Savage

GREEN COVE SPRINGS – Spring Park was alive last Saturday with music and food, arts and crafts, and most importantly, reverence to the city’s cherished artist, Augusta Savage. The annual Augusta Savage Cultural Arts Festival was an afternoon-long event where patrons were sun-splashed by perfect weather and a park filled with educational and fun activities. The city co-sponsored the event with the Friends of Augusta Savage, Inc., as part of its Black History Month celebration to showcase the work of local artists. Let's Ride Brass Band, D Five, Heart & Soul Youth Fine Arts Club, Orange Park and Middleburg High Chorus, Keystone Heights Band and performances from churches across Clay County all performed and patrons were invited to support the Green Cove Springs Food Pantry, while the county health department was on hand providing COVID-19 vaccinations.
