Former Columbus Blue Jacket Rick Nash will have his jersey number retired and raised on a banner during an on-ice ceremony Saturday, March 5.
Nash joined Kurt Ludlow on Good Day Columbus to talk about the upcoming ceremony.
"It's a huge moment. It's a true honor in Columbus Blue Jacket history and in sports in general, to get your number raised to the rafters," said Nash. "It's going to be a huge night for me, my family and especially the fans."
Nash is the franchise's all-time leader in games played, goals, assists and points.
He was named captain of the Blue Jackets in 2008, maintaining the role until he was traded to the New York Rangers in 2012.
Nash represented Columbus at five All-Star games and won a Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy and the NHL Foundation Player Award during his nine seasons with the team.
He went on to play for the New York Rangers and Boston Bruins before coming back to Columbus to join Blue Jackets management. He is a Special Assistant to the General Manager,
Rick Nash will become the first player in Columbus franchise history to have his number retired.
"It's an individual number, but it's not just me going up. It's a whole community and a whole state," said Nash.
No. 61 will be raised to the rafters above Nationwide Arena prior to the Blue Jackets game against the Boston Bruins on Saturday. Doors will open at 5 p.m. with fans being asked to be in their seats by 5:30 p.m.
