Xavi Simons sparked a brawl at the end of Paris Saint-Germain’s UEFA Youth League clash with Sevilla on Tuesday evening. PSG won the tie 2-0 and Sevilla were unhappy with what they deemed to be Simons’ provocations after scoring the winning penalty. Sekou Yansane scored PSG’s other goal, also from the spot.

Sevilla took offence to the way that Simons celebrated his goal, and things really kicked off at the final whistle. The victory means that PSG progress to the quarter-finals of Europe’s elite club competition for the continent’s youth while Sevilla crash out.

Simons, 18, is no stranger to Spanish football, of course. The midfielder, born in Amsterdam and an underage Dutch international, joined Barcelona at the age of seven and came through their youth system before departing for PSG in 2019. He’s made nine appearances for the French club’s first team to date and has managed to provide a sole assist.
