What's next for Andrew Luck? 'He wants to make an impact in our society.'

If you hoped Andrew Luck’s former college football coach had some insight into what the former quarterback’s future holds … well, you’ll be disappointed. He knows just as much as the rest of us.

"Andrew Luck is doing better than all of us combined," Stanford football coach David Shaw said on the Rich Eisen Show. "He knows himself, he's comfortable with himself. The rest of us would love to see him go out there and sling it around, but his career is too short, obviously, but it was an amazing experience for him and now he's moved on. He's a husband and a father, and looking for that next chapter in his life."

Every so often, there’s a whisper about the former Colts quarterback making a return to the NFL. Colts owner Jim Irsay can’t help but pine for Luck’s return — it happened on the night he retired, then after Philip Rivers retired. There were those cryptic texts and the time they might have reached out to Luck before trading for Carson Wentz.

But when Luck came back to Lucas Oil Stadium earlier this year for the national championship game, looking nothing like the quarterback Colts fans remember, it was a not-so-subtle reminder that he has happily moved into a new phase of his life.

Shaw told Eisen that Luck has "a million opportunities.” Only time will tell how he chooses to spend his time.

“I think, when he does dive into his next enterprise, it'll be something that benefits people,” Shaw said. “So that's all I'm comfortable saying right now. I think he's a very conscientious person and I think he still, beyond football, wants to make an impact in our society."
