Man survives self-inflicted gunshot wound to head after barricading himself in Bronx building for over 9 hours

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A man is in critical condition from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to head after barricading himself in an apartment building in Mott Haven early Sunday morning, according to the NYPD.

Police received a call reporting the 35-year-old man had barricaded himself in an apartment building at 455 E 137th Street around 4:30 a.m.

Officers spoke to the unidentified man for over nine hours. At around 1:40 p.m., they heard gunshots and entered the building.

They found the man had shot himself in the head but was still alive.

EMS rushed him to Lincoln Medical Center in critical condition.

The police have not disclosed what the man’s grievance was, but are carrying out an investigation into the incident.
