Dave takes a break from the heavy issues of climate change, drought, etc. to have some fun with his two favorite sports journalists, 49ers Insider and 49ers Host Laura Britt. Covering the complex world of professional sports is a task that takes a LOT of preparation and research and these two bring their

A game year-round to their podcast, 49ers Talk. Britt is the host for the NBC Bay Area pre and post-game shows (along with retired players Takeo Spikes Donte Whitner and Joe Staley) for Northern California's NFL team -- the legendary San Francisco 49ers. Matt is one of the most widely respected reporters in pro football and authored the book Letters to 87, which is about the incredible letters Dwight Clark received about his iconic catch against the Dallas Cowboys in the 1982 NFC Championship game.

Clark died of ALS in 2018 and personally asked Maiocco to shepherd the book. Just recently, Matt played an instrumental role in getting 49ers Defensive lineman Bryant Young voted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

While Britt and Maiocco are total pros, the on-air chemistry and fun they have together is infectious and comes across in Dave's conversation with them. You'll also find out that Dave's start in the world of journalism wasn't all about science either!

Dave Schlom is the longtime host and creator of Blue Dot. From surfing to Voyager in interstellar space, rock guitar to orcas in our imperiled oceans, the topics on Blue Dot are as varied as the host’s interests and connections -- which are pretty limitless! An internationally respected space history journalist, Dave is also deeply fascinated by all aspects of the grand workings of nature’s awesome machinery on scales ranging from galactic to subatomic. And topics take in all aspects of the arts and sciences.
