Sir Mo Farah has announced he will run at this May’s London Vitality 10,000.

The race, which takes place on 2 May 2022, has seen Farah take victory on seven previous occasions.

The 38-year-old suffered a fractured foot last year, which ruled him out of the Tokyo Olympics. He’s not raced since June 2021, so this makes his return to an event he has great affection for even more notable.

‘I have great memories of the event,’ said Farah. ‘I’ve won it seven times and racing in central London is something you can never get bored of. The atmosphere among the thousands of participants is always fantastic and I can’t wait to be part of it again.’

Farah also set the British 10K record of 27:44 at the race in 2010, a record that was equalled by Emile Cairess in Valencia this year.

The London Vitality 10,000 has become an unmissable race in the calendar for many runners across the UK. Starting at The Mall, the route heads towards the City of London, passing St Paul’s Cathedral, Somerset House and Big Ben before finishing in front of Buckingham Palace.

‘I’m really looking forward to getting out there and racing again at an event I really love,’ added Farah. ‘I’ve been working hard to get back into shape following my injury last summer and I’ve got a few more months of hard training ahead of me, so it’s good to have a target like the Vitality London 10,000 to work towards.’

This will be the first time the event has been run on its usual route since 2019, although there will be a virtual race too so that runners from around the world can take part.
