Bayern Munich: Jamal Musiala in line for more gametime in midfield
The muscle injury to Corentin Tolisso against Greuther Furth on Sunday has once again limited options for Julian Nagelsmann in the central midfield at Bayern Munich. The German coach will have to tweak the system or explore other options in the midfield for the upcoming games in the Bundesliga and Champions League.
For now, it does look like Jamal Musiala is set to become the box-to-box midfielder for Rekordmeister in the next few games. According to AZ (via iMiaSanMia), Musiala is ahead of Marc Roca and Marcel Sabitzer in the pecking order for a place in central midfield.
Musiala featured in this role during the final few games before the winter break. The youngster showed great maturity to fulfill the duties of this role. The Bavarian club also considers Musiala as the long-term option in the center of the park. The club hierarchy believes that Musiala can be the direct replacement of Thiago Alcantara.
Jamal Musiala has incredible close control and the ability to dribble past players to become a driving force from the midfield. The youngster also has an eye for goal, so he can be successfully converted into a number eight while going forward.
After a bout with coronavirus, Musiala is back in training. The youngster has trained individually, but he is likely to be in contention for the game against Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday. Musiala will be thoroughly tested in the coming weeks as Die Roten plays Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga. The Bavarian club will be hosting RB Salzburg on March 8 in the second leg of the first knockout round of the Champions League.
Joshua Kimmich will be the midfield partner for Jamal Musiala in the coming weeks. The German midfielder has not been at his best since returning to action in January. Since the impact of COVID was big on Kimmich, it is understandable that he is still rusty. The Bavarian faithful will be hoping that he will get back to his best for the final phase of the season.
