Xavier Brown scored 44 points to lead No. 2 seed Jamestown to a 72-65 home win over No. 7 Heritage in the Class 4 Region A quarterfinals Tuesday night.
The win moved the Eagles (19-3) to within a victory of their first state tournament berth since 2017, when they advanced to the Class 4 final.
The Eagles will play No. 6 Hampton on Thursday at King’s Fork in the semifinals for a state tournament berth and a spot in the region final on Friday. The Crabbers (10-8) beat Grafton 57-37 in the other quarterfinal played on Tuesday in Jamestown’s gym.
The Jamestown-Heritage game was close throughout, tied at 33 at intermission. The Eagles led just 56-55 when Brown scored inside with 4:11 to play to ignite a game-deciding 13-4 run in which he scored eight of his 14 fourth-quarter points.
Dante Howell scored six of his game-high 14 points as the Crabbers began the game on an 11-2 run against Grafton (18-5), which never got closer than four points thereafter.
Jordan King scored 13 points for the Crabbers, while Chandler Swann led the Clippers with 13 points.

King’s Fork 89, Churchland 42
Samuel Brannen had 19 points and six assists and George Beale had a double-double — 14 points and 14 rebounds — as the unbeaten and top-seeded Bulldogs rolled.
King’s Fork led by seven points after the first quarter, but Ryan Hite keyed a 27-point second quarter with seven points for the Bulldogs. King’s Fork led 47-21 at the break.
The Bulldogs host Manor in Thursday’s semifinals.
Manor 89, Smithfield 52
Michael Smith Jr. and Tony Goodman Jr. scored 20 points each to lead the fourth-seeded Mustangs.
Smith also had seven assists and four rebounds, and teammate Javon Taylor chipped in 17 points and six boards.
Tidewater Conference Tournament
Peninsula Catholic 86, Nansemond-Suffolk Academy 45
Travon Gray scored 17 of his game-high 28 points in the first half as the third-seeded Knights built an 21-point halftime lead.
Stylz Gardner finished with 14 points for Peninsula Catholic.
In other TCIS quarterfinals Tuesday, top-seeded Catholic defeated Norfolk Academy 59-38, Cape Henry edged Norfolk Collegiate 66-63 and Steward topped Walsingham 63-30.
