Grambling State was front and center at  the 64th annual Daytona 500 on Sunday and for the racing world to see.

The No. 44 had a distinct color scheme with Grambling State colors and trademarks, including gold-colored numbers and lettering from artist Brenden Drapo. Owned by former Grambling football player John Cohen, the Chevrolet Camaro was sponsored by HBCU League Pass Plus and driven by NASCAR veteran Greg Biffle.

Although Biffle got off to a promising start, he finished 36th after temporarily leaving the race to replace a faulty fuel line.

The Daytona 500 was the first example of the partnership between Grambling State and Urban Edge Network.

"This partnership will enhance our abilities with the student-athletes and give them direct access to brand themselves," Grambling athletics director Trayvean Scott said in a school release. "This is a game-changer in collegiate athletics as we are continuing to shift the culture at Grambling State University."

Four Black owners had cars participate in the Daytona 500 for the first time: Cohen (New York Racing Team), Charlotte Hornets owner Michael Jordan (23XI Racing), former NBA player Brad Daugherty (JTG Daugherty) and boxing legend Floyd Mayweather (The Money Team Racing).
