Dom Dwyer signs 2-year deal with Atlanta United

Dom Dwyer agreed to a two-year contract with MLS club Atlanta United FC on Tuesday, a deal that includes team options for 2024-25.

The 31-year-old forward spent last year with Toronto FC following four seasons with Orlando City SC.

He played for Sporting Kansas City from 2012-17. Dwyer has 81 goals in 209 regular-season games plus two in nine playoff matches.

Born in England, Dwyer became an American citizen and scored twice in four international appearances for the United States in 2017.

Dwyer married Sydney Leroux, a forward on the U.S. women's team, in 2015. She joined the Orlando Pride of the National Women's Soccer League in 2017.

Last August, Leroux announced they were ending their marriage.

Atlanta also announced on Tuesday that they have loaned forward Erik Lopez to Club Atletico Banfield in Argentina's top division.

The loan agreement keeps Lopez with Banfield until the end of June, but it comes with an option to extend his stay there until the end of the calendar year. Atlanta United still retain Lopez's rights beyond the 2022 Major League Soccer season.

Lopez, 20, had been in talks to join Banfield since January, according to multiple reports.

Atlanta originally acquired Lopez in 2020 on-loan from Paraguayan side Olimpia and assigned the forward to its second team.

Last January, Lopez joined Atlanta's first team on a permanent transfer. In the 2021 MLS season, Lopez logged more than 860 minutes for the Five Stripes across 18 appearances. He netted one goal, in a 2-2 draw with Nashville.
