Boston riders ranked among the worst rated by Uber drivers. If you're feeling brave, here's how to check your personal rider ratings.

In a move for more transparency on its ride-hailing app, Uber Technologies Inc. (NYSE: UBER) is allowing users to see breakdowns of each of their trips, including what drivers think of them.

The information could be startling for people who think they've been given five-star ratings each time, as the new options under the app's privacy section reveal the ratings they received for each trip.

If you feel brave enough to view your rider ratings, go to the settings menu and tap Privacy, then Privacy Center. Once in there, swipe to the left under "Your data and privacy at Uber." Tap "Would you like to see a summary of how you use Uber?" Then scroll down to the ratings section and tap "View my ratings."

Results for Boston riders aren't very impressive, according to Uber's data. The company released rankings of the best and worst cities, based on average passenger scores. Boston was ranked fourth among the worst-rated cities, behind New York, Seattle and Washington, D.C.

Uber said in a blog post that low passenger scores can cause people to lose access to services. The cutoff point isn't rigid and has different thresholds in different cities due to cultural differences.

But Uber said the best ways to improve your rating are to not leave trash behind, buckle your seatbelt, be on time, treat the driver with respect and don't slam the door on your way out.

Here's who else joined Boston among the 10 worst-rated cities, and where they rank:
