Following a season-long game of emotional Ping-Pong, Sweet Magnolias‘ Dana Sue has made several difficult decisions about her romantic future — and actress Brooke Elliott couldn’t be more supportive of her character’s choices.
Her first hurdle in Season 2 was choosing between hot farmer Jeremy and hot estranged-husband Ronnie, both of whom presented many pluses and minuses and abs.
“Jeremy is such a gift to Dana Sue,” Elliott tells TVLine. “He allows her to feel beautiful again. She gets to feel desired and wanted — that someone craves her and is interested in her, and that’s no small thing in life. He gives her a lot, and he comes with such innocence. To me, that is a huge gift.”
That said, Dana Sue ultimately realized that a future with Jeremy wasn’t meant to be. Instead, she decided to go all-in with Ronnie, inviting him back into her home, her bed and her heart.
“To me, their souls just align,” Elliott says of the reunited couple. “They’re just matched, and I don’t know how you don’t root for two souls that are so meant to be.”
And that appreciation extends off-camera for Elliott, who “cannot say enough good things” about Brandon Quinn as a scene partner.
“When we do those scenes together, he’s 100-percent in as much as I am,” she says. “We took great care with their storyline this season. It’s really complex and intricate, and it’s really relatable. We wanted to hit every beat of this relationship — the questions, the battles and everything they had to figure out about themselves. Partners are such gifts in telling us who we are and what we want. I could go on and on about Brandon Quinn. I think he’s just magnificent, and I love the scenes we get to do together.”
But this long-awaited reconciliation doesn’t guarantee that the couple’s future will be all sunshine and rainbows. Some fans are even speculating that the woman who slashed Dana Sue’s tires in the second season finale could be the one with whom Ronnie was unfaithful.
All showrunner Sheryl J. Anderson will say about the mysterious new arrival is that she “has a past in common with our ladies and some other folks in town. She’s been away for a while, but she has come back with an agenda. She has come home to settle some scores.”
“I was alarmed and excited,” Elliott adds of the unnamed woman. “Hopefully we’ll be given a third season and we can figure out who she is. I’m just as curious as everybody else.”

I love this show, it’s wholesome and just not your traditional drama. I love all the characters and you honestly can relate to some of them. Everyone has flaws and it’s hidden underneath the surfaces and so interesting to see.
You sympathize with just about all of them and yes even Bill, Chris Klein is so believable in this role, Bill screwed up so many times but you can’t help but feel sorry for him. And even Ronnie he never gave up wanting his family back. Cmon Season three!
I actually agree about Bill – after they found out he was Isaac’s father, everyone was mad at him for…not knowing? He screwed up A LOT, but he shouldn’t be held responsible for not knowing something so many people kept from him.
I think people would have had more sympathy for Bill if he didn’t have children with three different women. The pregnancy with a high school hookup just further establishes a pattern with his behavior. Yes, he didn’t know, BUT this is the second time (technically the first) he got a girl pregnant on “accident”. The dude needs to learn how to use a condom. (and yes, I know condoms break. Once is one thing, but twice!?)
Can’t help feel sorry for Bill? Ummm no. Why should I feel sorry for him? He’s the epitome of a mid life crisis. I could overlook getting someone pregnant is HS, especially because he didn’t know about it, but cheating on your HS sweetheart after 20+ years with the young nurse that works in your office AND getting her pregnant? Ever heard of a condom? He’s screwed up his own life royally and there’s zero reason to feel bad for him.
Also remember how he said he slept with Peggy “before things got ‘serious'” with Maddie, suggesting there was a bit of overlap there which is also shady.
I watched this show because I loved Brooke Elliot in Drop Dead Diva. However, I find Dana Sue to be the least likable character in the show. I also felt season 2 was pretty dull compared to season 1. Of it gets renewed I hope they make it a little better
I feel you 100% on that! This season was weak in my opinion. The plot line wasn’t as engaging as the first season.
same dana sue is a lot—my thinking is she must be a very good cook so they deal with her irrational drama.
This season on season 2 kept myself glued to the episodes. Each time I’m either on the edge of my seat. Never have I watched such a great story line and you never actually took time to figure out the next turn. Lives and the ways of bringing up children. This greatly impacted me after losing family members and friends. I can’t wait for season 3. Thank yiu for 2 great seasons. Let’s go Season 3 …..
Love love love this
love this show so much..not long enough sessions ..I get hooked and it’s done .love all the actors ..bring on another 30 sessions please.
I was already to move to Serenity…my kind of town!
The entire cast just CRIES TOO MUCH!!
The relationships in the show feel thorough and authentic, when you grow up in a smaller town and everyone knows you, you can’t escape your poor choices, but your people stick with you through it, sometimes even the bullies. It’s most evident after big events that hit the community. Bill has too many kids.
Season 2 seemed to tie up some loose ends, maybe for a story re-direct in season 3? Let’s hope for more episodes while we’re at it. Ten isn’t cutting it, can feel rushed in places.
I loved Brooke Elliott in Drop Dead Diva, she was why I tried the show in the first place. FABULOUS.
So many things in the show ring true about southern living, I love to see what comes up next in scene location, mannerisms, etc.
They should drop in some humidity, and more outdoor scenes.
Dana Sue is my least favorite character and thought Jeremy actually made her more watchable/likeable. I’d like Ronnie to stick around and would be interested in a the story where they get divorced, co-parent and maybe even be friends as Ronnie comes into his own.
A third season definitely has to happen!!
Absolutely love this show! Power watched it in three days.
Really want Helen to be joined with Erik.
Curious as to who the mystery tire slasher is.
Please have a third season!!
Bring season 3 back on Quick of Steele magnolias
I love this show! I would’ve to see Eric and Helen together. They are so good for eachother. This show just makes me feel good at the end of a hard day. I makes me want to move to a place just like it .
