For the first time in two years, we have a speeder. Actually two.

Ty Dillon, who finished sixth in the 2019 Daytona 500, was tagged with a penalty in this year's race.

That was in Stage 1. In Stage 2, Daniel Suarez, who drives for the Trackhouse Racing Group team owned by Pitbull, got dinged.

And then at the end of the second state, Michael McDowell, the 2021 champion, also got caught.

Dillon, Suarez and McDowell exceeded pit road's speed limit of 55 mph on Sunday, and had to return to pit road for what's called a "pit road passthrough".

All ended up toward the back of the field.

Last season, Dillon missed out on the 500, as he couldn't qualify out of the Duels, losing out to Austin Cindric.

Suarez has never had a finish better than 29th at the Daytona 500, though he did have three top-10 finishes during the Cup season in 2021.

McDowell's 2021 Daytona 500 victory was his very first NASCAR Cup win, and started a strong stretch of finishes. He was eighth the following week back at Daytona – this time, in the road-course O'Reilly Auto Parts 253 – and sixth in the Dixie Vodka 400 in Homestead the week after that.
