Chase Briscoe and Daniel Hemric were moved to the rear of the starting grid for Sunday’s Daytona 500 after their cars failed pre-race inspections.

Briscoe had qualified ninth in his No. 14 Ford and Hemric had been 33rd in the No. 16 Chevrolet. Instead they will begin the 64th running of the Great American Race at the rear of the field in Daytona Beach, Fla.

Hemric’s car failed three times and will also be subject to a pass-through penalty at the first opportunity.

A crew member for each driver was ejected from the race: engineer George Spencer for Briscoe and car chief J.D. Frey for Hemric.

Also moving to the rear are Joey Logano’s No. 22 Ford (backup car) and Jacques Villeneuve’s No. 27 Ford (engine change).
