Robert Ballard enters race for Mesa County Clerk and Recorder

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo (KREX) — Mesa County Clerk, Tina Peters originally announced a candidacy for re-election. Now, Peters is wanting to expand her role, to Colorado Secretary of State. In the state of Colorado, one person can’t run for two elected positions.

With Peters eyeing the state capitol, more space is open for candidates running for Mesa County Clerk. Republican clerk candidate Bobbie Gross ran against Peters back in 2018. Gross isn’t the only candidate running for the clerk’s position.

Voters will also see libertarian candidate, Robert Ballard. Ballard tells KREX he’s not interested in traditional red versus blue politics and believes it’s time for a third-party candidate.

Ballard says, “County Clerk and Recorder is supposed to be that liaison between the voters and that Clerk and Recorder’s office that provides the services that our taxes are paying for. We do have to have a secure and equal access elections system, where we can all agree if there’s a corrupt machine that comes or corrupt person in our office, our office is designed with the right check and balances that we can’t have a fraudulent office and that’s the office I tend to run.”
