BRANDON — A man operating a street sweeper died in a Brandon Publix parking lot Friday night after a collision with an automobile ejected him from his vehicle, which then ran over him, the Florida Highway Patrol said in a statement.

A 57-year-old man from Thonotosassa was cleaning the parking lot of Publix Super Market at Brandon Mall with a 2021 street sweeper, the highway patrol said. The operator left the parking lot to make a U-turn on Brandon Boulevard and get back into the same lot. During the turn, the street sweeper hit a 2016 Chevy Corvette traveling east on Brandon Boulevard.

The street sweeper driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, fell out of the vehicle and the street sweeper kept moving forward, the highway patrol said, running over the driver. He died at the scene from his injuries.
