The Lightning selected Lecavalier with the No. 1 overall pick in the 1998 NHL Draft. During his time in Tampa, he played alongside current Canadiens interim head coach Martin St. Louis.

Lecavalier also spent time with the Philadelphia Flyers and Los Angeles Kings before retiring after the 2015-16 season.

The 41-year-old Lecavalier, a former captain for the Lightning, won the Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy in 2007 as the league's leading goal scorer. Tampa Bay retired his No. 4 jersey in February 2018.

Lecavalier ended his playing career with 949 points (421 goals, 528 assists) over 1,212 games.

Also Friday, the Canadiens added Nick Bobrov to their front office. He will serve as co-director of amateur scouting.

Bobrov will share the position with Martin Lapointe. Bobrov joins the Canadiens after spending six seasons (2015-21) as the New York Rangers' director of European scouting. He also held that role with the Boston Bruins from 2001-06.
