NBA honors Terrence Clarke with Rising Stars jersey
Ahead of the top annual showcase of its young talent, the NBA paid tribute to a prospect lost too soon.
The NBA unveiled an honorary jersey for Terrence Clarke before the Clorox Rising Stars event through social media on Friday. Clarke lost his life in a car accident last summer just months before he likely would have been a first-round pick.
It is not the first time the league has honored Clarke since his tragic passing. During the 2021 Draft, commissioner Adam Silver took time between the 14th and 15th picks to memorialize Clarke and "draft" him on behalf of the NBA, saying he "will forever be part of the NBA family."
Coming out of high school, Clarke was a McDonald's All-American and was widely considered one of the top prospects in his class. He attended Kentucky for one season, but appeared in just eight games due to injury. He averaged 9.6 points, 2.6 rebounds and two assists per game for the Wildcats.
