The late-game hero of MLS Cup 2021 for the Portland Timbers is set to miss some time due to injury. Forward Felipe Mora underwent arthroscopic debridement surgery on his left knee, the Timbers announced Friday. He is out for approximately six weeks.
The surgery was performed by Dr. Kevin Murphy of Portland, the team said.
“Mora will conduct his rehabilitation with the Timbers sports medicine staff at Providence Park and at the Providence Sports Care Center and is expected to return in approximately six weeks,” the Timbers said in a release.
Mora, 28, scored a team-high 11 goals and notched five assists last season for the Timbers. His goal in stoppage time sent MLS Cup 2021 into extra time, a game the Timbers eventually lost to New York City FC in penalty kicks.
A Chilean national, Mora was acquired by the Timbers from Pumas UNAM of Liga MX (the top professional league in Mexico) via transfer in January 2021. Other forwards on the Timbers’ current roster include veterans Dairon Asprilla and Jaroslaw Niezgoda, along with 18-year-old Tega Ikoba.
