Composer and instrumentalist Tyshawn Sorey has signed a publishing agreement with Edition Peters.

Winner of a 2015 Doris Duke Impact Award, a 2017 MacArthur Fellowship, and a 2018 United States Artists Fellowship, Sorey’s work has been performed by such organizations as John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the Mostly Mozart Festival at Lincoln Center, the Ojai Music Festival, and by Opera Philadelphia. Major performers who have championed his work include soprano Julia Bullock, tenor Lawrence Brownlee, flutist Claire Chase, countertenor John Holiday, violinist Jennifer Koh, pianist Conrad Tao, bass-baritone Davóne Tines, and cellist Seth Parker Woods.

“I am excited to be working with Peters—between their long tradition and their collaborative approach to contemporary music, it’s a great partnership and an opportunity to explore new ways of creating and performing work,” Sorey said in an official statement.

Kathryn Knight, US President of Edition Peters, added, “Tyshawn Sorey is extraordinary both in the all-encompassing, panoramic breadth of his vision, and in its microscopic, penetrating focus. We are proud to add him to the Peters family alongside other composers, from John Cage to Ash Fure, who have leapt off from tradition into a musical world without limits.”
