Steve Poltz takes a tongue-twisting, cross-continent adventure in the animated video for his new single, “Can O’ Pop”. The track is set to appear on the singer-songwriter’s new album, Stardust & Satellites, out on February 18th.

The life of any folksinging troubadour is measured in mile-markers, seedy motels, empty bottles, and maybe even a few songs written along the way. Poltz is no exception, the Halifax-born, San Diego-raised, Nashville-based bard has done his time on the circuit first laid out by Jerry Jeff Walker and Ramblin’ Jack Elliot. Those travails form the base of Poltz’s sesquipedalian escapades, including how he “met his Bordeaux, at the chateau, left his chapeau, down in Tupelo/I lost my left eye from a crossbow, and my wallet way up in Gatineau.” All the while, Poltz feels the fizzy rhythm of The Wood Brothers‘ Jano Rix—who produced the album with Oliver Wood—on the congas.

“It’s weird to see your song all grown up with a college degree,” Poltz said of the Duncan Hatch-directed video. “What a glorious video that dude Mr. Hatch made. I just watched it while on tour with the Wood Brothers. They let me ride on their fancy tour bus with them and they had a big old TV and we howled and danced and sang along at the top of our lungs. All I did was write the song with my pal Jano Rix. That video dude did all the heavy lifting.”
