As if the Knicks couldn’t have enough go wrong during their monumental collapse against the Nets on Wednesday night, veteran Taj Gibson accidentally helped Brooklyn’s comeback with a putback dunk in his own basket.
Up by 11 in the fourth quarter, New York forced Andre Drummond to miss a short-range shot, and as Gibson soared in for the rebound, so did Drummond, following up his own miss to try and grab a second-chance opportunity. His hand made contact with the back of Gibson’s, causing Gibson to dunk the ball in his own basket to cut the Knicks lead to nine.
The lead completely evaporated soon after, and New York was on its way to blowing its third 20-point lead in the last week and a half.
