Florida football Twitter account dragged for channeling Butch Jones

Florida football is getting new facilities but a tweet that channeled former Tennessee football coach Butch Jones is not sitting well with Gators fans.

It’s a new era for Florida football with Billy Napier taking over for the fired Dan Mullen. With that comes the construction of new facilities that should go a long way toward improving recruiting for the Gators, an area they struggled with during the Mullen era.

The Florida Gators football Twitter account shared a video of the ongoing construction on Wednesday night that has fans excited for the new facilities. However, it’s the caption attached to the video that has fans and rivals talking.

Brick by brick was the mantra used by former Tennessee football coach Butch Jones when he took over the Vols program. It was very cheesy, very high school and backfired in a big way when Jones couldn’t elevate the program.

Florida football fans are not happy to be channeling Butch Jones

So for the Florida account to bring back this phrase, it was a cringe-worthy sight for Gators fans.

One of the top comments said, “Ummmmm can we maybe never choose this caption again moving forward? It’s feeling a little Butch Jones-y in here…”

A rival Georgia fan couldn’t help but laugh at the Jones connection.

“What in the Butch Jones are you talking about?”

More laughs coming at the Gators’ expense.

“Lol they are full Butch Jones now”

Florida can have the last laugh if Napier recruits at a high level and wins the SEC East and gets the Gators in the College Football Playoff in the near future.
