the winter olympics are now well underway and while there likely isn't a single athlete who is competing without love for their sport, many of them go home with more than just a medal. In fact, Forbes reports, 32 of the 91 competing countries offer a prize in the form of money, if any, Olympian medals, but who pays the most. You might be surprised to hear that the country of Cyprus is in the top five money award, winning olympic nations with $168,000 being awarded to anyone who brings home the gold, but of course no Cyprien athlete has ever done that. However, according to Eurosport, Italy gives $206,000 to any gold medalists and in the Beijing winter olympics alone, their athletes have already taken home too, and while Malaysia is upping the ante, giving $239,000 to anyone who wins gold. Turkey is providing more gold to gold medalists. Insider reports the Turkish athlete to compete and win first place in their events are given a 22 karat gold coin worth around $383,000 and if it's a record setting gold medal, you get a cool $190,000 cash as well, but few can hold a candle to Hong kong's offerings. A country that awards anyone who places in the top 88 place winners will receive $40,000 with increasing monetary prizes given all the way up to gold medalists who take home a whopping $641,000 okay
