Coronation Street's Sam Aston hasn't "entertained" the notion of walking away from the soap.

A cast member since 2003, Aston plays Chesney Brown: father to five kids, fiancé to Gemma Winter (Dolly-Rose Campbell) and brother to Fiz Stape (Jennie McAlpine).

Catching up with the Loose Women today (February 16), the actor was quizzed by panelist Janet Street-Porter whether he's interested in taking on new parts outside of Weatherfield.

"I've played him for so long, but I've been lucky because I've had so many storylines over the years that they always test you and it's a new thing to sink your teeth into.

"So, I've not really entertained the idea right now," he revealed. "I don't know, maybe not. I'm very lucky, I thoroughly enjoy it at Corrie."

Aston, 28, then reflected on playing the character since the tender age of 10.

"I think when you're that young, you're a bit more fearless as a child. I didn't understand the magnitude of the show, I was just there and having a good time. Acting was something I enjoyed. I went to a drama workshop as a child and it was a hobby."

Despite his commitment to the role, there's still movement inside the Corrie camp, as Emma Brooker's Alexandra Mardell recently announced her decision to leave.

"Compared to other cast members I still feel like a newbie, which makes my decision to leave all the more difficult. But I feel it's the right time for me.

"I can't thank everyone at Coronation Street enough for welcoming me and trusting me to tell so many wonderful and heartfelt stories," her statement read.

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 7.30pm on ITV.
