(KNSI) – Minnesota 7th District Congresswoman Michelle Fischbach is running for reelection. The 7th District includes all of northern and western Stearns County. The lawmaker from Paynesville made the announcement on Tuesday. Fischbach will be seeking a second term in Congress after getting elected in 2020 by defeating a 30-year incumbent Collin Peterson by 14 points.

“When I launched my campaign, I pushed for stronger rural communities,” said Fischbach. “That has been one of my priorities since taking office. I have fought for our western Minnesota values and am proud of the work I have done for my constituents in Congress, especially on the Agriculture Committee. With rising inflation, increases in the cost of living, and the next Farm Bill, there is much work to be done. I look forward to continuing my service on behalf of Minnesota’s 7th Congressional District in Congress.”

Fischbach says she’s been traveling the district meeting with farmers, families, and civic leaders since she took office. She served as the 49th Lieutenant Governor of Minnesota and was the first woman in Minnesota to serve as President of the Minnesota Senate. She was elected to the Minnesota Senate in 1996 and served until 2018.

She holds a B.A. from St. Cloud State University and a J.D. from William Mitchell College of Law. She and her husband, Scott, live near Paynesville and have two grown children and six grandchildren.
