Team USA has moved up to No. 3 on the medal leaderboard at the 2022 Winter Olympics and will have a chance to add more hardware on Day 11 in Beijing. Overall, medals will be awarded in nine events on Monday and early Tuesday.In snowboarding’s big air event, Red Gerard heads into the final having taken third place in the qualification round. On the women’s side, defending Olympic silver medalist Jamie Anderson, of South Lake Tahoe, failed to make the big air final. But another athlete with roots in Northern California did. Hailey Langland is a former member of the Tahoe Select Snowboard Team from San Clemente. She earned the last spot in qualification.Freestyle skier Maggie Voisin is hoping for her first Olympic medal in slopestyle. American-born Eileen Gu of China is also competing in the event, fresh off her gold medal win in freeski big air. In women’s figure skating, Karen Chen, 22, kicks off her quest to become the next Olympic champion from Fremont, after Kristi Yamaguchi won the gold 30 years ago. She’ll face 15-year-old Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva, who was just cleared to compete despite having tested positive for a banned performance-enhancing drug in December. Valieva made history earlier in the Games by becoming the first woman to land a quad jump at an Olympics.
