1 killed in fiery crash in Ward County

The driver of the car failed to stop at the stop sign and crossed the service road before continuing through the barrow ditch and vaulting over the safety cable wire

WARD COUNTY, Texas — DPS is investigating a major crash on I-20 in Ward County.

The crash took place near mile marker 81 just before 10 a.m. on February 14.

According to the crash report, Frankie Allene Weaks, 79, of Monahans was traveling southbound on Ike Street, headed towards I-20.

Weaks reportedly disregarded the stop sign and crossed over the service road before continuing through the barrow ditch, vaulting over the safety cable wire onto the highway.

A truck tractor traveling westbound on I-20 then struck Weak' car, which caught fire in the roadway.

Weaks was pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver was not injured.

No further information is available on the crash at this time.
