Colonial League boys basketball all-star team selected; Notre Dame’s Brendan Boyle unanimous choice as MVP

The 2021-22 Colonial League boys basketball championship will be decided this week with the semifinals Tuesday night at Catasauqua High School and the title game Friday night at Freedom.

Southern Lehigh, Notre Dame-Green Pond, Wilson and Palmerton are the four teams left trying to succeed Bangor as champion. Notre Dame and Wilson play at 6 p.m. Tuesday in one semifinal at Catty, and Southern Lehigh and Palmerton meet in the nightcap.

Meanwhile, Monday morning, the Colonial League Boys Basketball Coaches Association released its all-star selections for the season.

Notre Dame-Green Pond senior star Brendan Boyle was the unanimous choice as MVP while Wilson’s Na’Shawn Jones and Palmerton’s Matt Machalik joined Boyle as unanimous first-team all-league choices.

Here’s a look at the first and second teams and the honorable mention list provided by Palmerton coach Ken Termini, the spokesperson for the CLBBCA:

MVP: Brendan Boyle (Notre Dame–Green Pond, unanimous selection)

First Team: Brendan Boyle (Notre Dame-Green Pond), Na’Shawn Jones (Wilson), Matt Machalik (Palmerton), Josh Giaquinto (Bangor), Sean Howlett (Notre Dame-Green Pond), Max Pristas (Southern Lehigh).

Second Team: Kyle Artis (Salisbury), Liam Carey (Palisades), Shamel Gibson (Wilson), Brayden Hosier (Palmerton), Matt Tankred (Southern Lehigh), Dylan Witkowski (Northwestern Lehigh).

Honorable Mention: Noah Denton (Southern Lehigh), Dominik Lisicky (Southern Lehigh), Abhi Patel (Moravian Academy), Chris Ray (Moravian Academy), Zach Rodgers (Notre Dame-Green Pond), Anthony Shaw (Wilson), Brayden Strohe (Bangor), Damian Tyminski (Pen Argyl).
