Teen Killed By Dover Car Crash Identified As Owen Bingham

DOVER (CBS) -- The teenager killed in a Saturday morning crash has been identified as 18-year-old Owen Bingham of Sherborn. Dover-Sherborn High School Principal John Smith confirmed Bingham's death in a statement to WBZ.

By Sunday evening, the snow-covered memorial on Walpole Street had collected flowers, cards, and a golf club.

Bingham was driving a car at around 1 a.m. Saturday when police said it went off the road and crashed. Bingham was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.

Four other teenagers were in the car. Police said their injuries are not life-threatening.

According to Principal Smith, Bingham was a captain of the school's state championship golf team and an avid supporter of all Dover-Sherborn sports teams.

"He was loved by many peers and teachers," Smith said. "The Dover-Sherborn community is a strong and supportive one. Our teachers, students, community leaders, and parents will help each other through these very difficult times."

Mike Klein is the director of Dover-Sherborn Cable Television. The public access channel often broadcasts school athletic events.

"When he announced the lacrosse games his personality was on the air as well," said Klein. "He was very charismatic and outgoing."

Klein said Bingham started calling school lacrosse games last summer and believed many people tuned in because Bingham was on the mic.

Principal Smith said grief counselors and therapy dogs will be at the high school all week.

Bingham's funeral services are planned for Thursday and Friday.
