Marco Reus scored a brace as Borussia Dortmund cruised to a 3-0 win over Union Berlin to move to within six of Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga standings.

Borussia Dortmund made the difficult task of beating Union Berlin away from home look easy, as they claimed a 3-0 win thanks to goals from Marco Reus (x2) and Raphael Guerreiro. It was a solid and disciplined performance from Marco Rose’s side, and they were rewarded with their first away clean sheet of the season in the Bundesliga.

It was also a game to remember for Marco Reus, as he became just the fourth ever player to score 150 goals for Borussia Dortmund.

Marco Rose made two changes to the team that lost to Bayer Leverkusen a week ago, as Mats Hummels and Axel Witsel came in for Thomas Meunier and Thorgan Hazard. Erling Haaland (muscular problems) and Gio Reyna (ill) also missed the game.

Borussia Dortmund delivered a much improved performance in the first half and really took the game to Union Berlin. And they opened the scoring in the 18th minute, with Marco Reus placing his shot into the back of the net for his 150th goal for Borussia Dortmund.

Reus then got his second goal of the afternoon just seven minutes later to put the Black and Yellows in complete control of the game. Donyell Malen did really well to win his duel against Timo Baumgartl and send Reus through on goal. The Borussia Dortmund captain then rounded past Luthe and slotted the ball home.

Borussia Dortmund maintained their foothold on the game for the rest of the first half, and Donyell Malen missed a good chance to make it 3-0 minutes before the half time whistle.

Union Berlin began the second half on the front foot, and managed to test Gregor Kobel on a couple of occasions. But the BVB defence stood firm, with Mats Hummels and Dan-Axel Zagadou both making some vital recoveries to prevent the home side from scoring.

Borussia Dortmund then went down the other end and made sure of the win, with Raphael Guerreiro poking the ball into the net after some excellent work by Jude Bellingham. Union Berlin had a goal disallowed for a foul moments later, and Dortmund managed to see out the 3-0 win in the end.

It wasn’t the prettiest of performances from Borussia Dortmund, but they were in control at all times and played with a lot more composure and cohesion. And Marco Rose will gladly take the result after last week’s chaotic and shambolic defensive performance. Next up for Dortmund is the first leg of their Europa League tie against Rangers.
