Fatal crash shut down section of I-595 East in Davie

One person was killed in a three-vehicle crash early Saturday morning on Interstate 595 East near Davie Boulevard, officials said.

The crash happened about 5 a.m., according to the Florida Highway Patrol, and it shut down eastbound lanes of the highway for almost six hours.

A pickup truck and a tractor-trailer were stopped on the highway after being involved in an accident on I-595 East.

An approaching van couldn’t stop and rear-ended the tractor-trailer resulting in the death of the driver.

Television footage from WSVN-Ch. 7 showed the charred van after it collided with the tractor-trailer.

The pickup truck driver, a 43-year-old man from New Jersey, sustained minor injuries and the tractor-trailer driver, a 45-year-old man from Fort Lauderdale, waasn’t hurt.

The highway was re-opened at 10:45 a.m.
