Mayor Bronson Recognizes the Passing of Former Senator Johnny Ellis

Anchorage, AK ­– Anchorage Mayor Dave Bronson and First Lady Deb Bronson today extended condolences to the loved ones and friends of former State legislator Johnny Ellis, who passed away Wednesday.  

Ellis represented Fairview and downtown Anchorage in the state Senate from 1992 until he retired in 2017. He was the Senate Majority Leader from 2009-2011. He was first elected to the state House in 1986 serving until 1992.

“Senator Johnny Ellis was a true public servant who cared deeply for his constituents and community," said Mayor Bronson. “His tireless and dedicated work will be missed. Deb and I are praying for comfort and peace for his family."

Mayor Bronson has ordered that Municipality of Anchorage flags fly at half-staff sunrise to sunset at Fairview Recreation Center until February 14, 2022, in honor of former Senator Johnny Ellis. The order for state flags to fly at half-staff will be in coordination with the State of Alaska.
