El Paso Water officials said the Sam Snead project is expected to be completed by the end of the month.
There has been construction at the intersection of Lee Trevino and Sam Snead for several years.
El Paso Water has been working to improve stormwater drainage systems there.
The latest monsoon season created more complications pushing the finish date back due to the severe flooding and major sinkhole.
El Paso Water officials said in December the project would be wrapped up by early 2022.
We’ve been having monthly community meetings with Sam Snead residents and so every month we’ve been updating them,” said Gilbert Trejo the Chief Operations Officer at El Paso Water. "We went from generically early 2022 to be done in February with that said will be done and out of there by the end of February are on that project is all but wrapping up now.
Trejo said the major infrastructure has been completed. Large stormwater boxes have been installed underneath the pavement.
The final step left in the project is to finish pouring concrete, which on a road as big as Lee Trevino will take time to do, according to Trejo.
Some residents in the area were bothered by the whole process more than others.
Residents said they are looking forward to seeing the project complete after months of setbacks.
“It’ll get done it’ll get fixed but for me, it wasn’t a problem you know I just my wife sick the street she can go in the wheelchair no problem. Just go around it take the opposite, find a way out," said a resident.
“When they started they said it was gonna be done within a certain time frame and then it went on," said another resident.
“If they’re gonna finish it in a month then you know that be great but you know I’ll just wait and see," said another resident.
