Jimmy Choo and Mugler Launched a Joint Collection of Shoes With a Pumped-up Party in Beverly Hills

Building on the very brand signatures the late Thierry Mugler introduced in the ‘90s—illusion mesh, angular tailoring, and skin as a design element—Casey Cadwallader has more than earned the approval of the fashion world since his appointment to the house of Mugler in 2018.

Meanwhile, Jimmy Choo, launched within the same decade as Mugler, has long embodied the very essence of luxury footwear. Shoe-goals personified (albeit before the social media-term even existed), the brand’s heels have never not been a coveted commodity. Through to today, with Sandra Choi at its helm, the label remains a case-in-point example of sexiness in shoe form. That the two brands would collaborate on a footwear capsule makes a lot of sense. Last night, Los Angeles saw the celebration of Choi and Cadwallader’s creative partnership.

The location of choice, Terminal 27, was perfectly on theme. Perched on a Beverly Hills corner, the edgy concept store stashed away its clothing racks and art fixtures, leaving the roomy, indoor-outdoor space to stand alone—all better to fill the room with Hollywood starlets and friends of the brands! The campaign video for the Jimmy Choo x Mugler collaboration was projected onto the walls, a compilation of moody videography just as futuristic as it is nostalgic to set the tone for the night and the collection.

“We have arrived,” Choi laughs over the base of a techno-meets-disco-meets-hip-hop soundtrack engineered by Kitty Ca$h. The pair began designing the collection over a year ago, communicating primarily through video calls and WhatsApp messages. Together, they decided to revisit ‘90s-era Jimmy Choo silhouettes—what Cadwallader affectionately calls a “longer, bitchier” toe. Of the nine styles to launch on February 10, Choi wore a meshy pump, adorned with leather straps to create an almost peep-toe illusion, and paired them back with Cadwallader’s viral jeans for Mugler. Like any fashion aficionado, she said she had been enjoying eyeing the attendees’ shoes in the room.

With a guest list chock full of industry insiders, there was no shortage of ensembles to admire. Megan Fox wore a micro mini skirt and gold-strapped pumps. Aleali May wore a denim and mesh contrast corset top with matching jeans. And guests enjoyed an up-close-and-personal performance from Chloe Bailey, who opted for a full-on dominatrix-esque catsuit. Also in attendance were Jamie Xie, Karrueche Tran, Anita, Nicole Ari Parker, Sami Miro, and more. With delectable desserts such as vegan cheesecake on hand, custom cocktails courtesy of Volcán Blanco Skinny Citrus Margarita, Belvedere Apple Drop Martinis, and Moët Imperial Brut Rose Champagne, and music that inspired dancing, it’s safe to say guests were in no rush to head home come 10 PM. Though from the looks of it (see: the sizes that have already sold out on Mugler and Jimmy Choo’s respective websites), many cuddled up in bed, pulled out their phones, and bought a pair of shoes.
