Could we one day see Spider-Man in a Bong Joon-ho film? We might if Tom Holland gets his way.

In a new interview with Hipertextual while promoting Uncharted, the actor was asked which director he’d really love to work with and one man immediately came to mind.

“I love Bong Joon-ho, I think he’s wonderful,” Holland said (see below at the 3:30 minute mark). “I had the pleasure of meeting with him recently, I’ve met with him before, and he is someone I think has a great heart. He’s not been corrupted by Hollywood.” He added: “He’s a wonderful, wonderful director and I love all of his work so he’s probably up there at the minute for me.”

Holland previously spoke about meeting the Parasite director with Korea Times, revealing that the pair discussed a certain famous footballer together. “Sonny (Tottenham’s Son Heung-Min) is my favourite football player. He is a real inspiration. He seems to be loving his football, which is always refreshing to see. I had a meeting with Bong Joon-ho the other day and we just spoke about how much we love Sonny,” he recalled.

The idea of a major superhero star working with Bong isn’t actually far-fetched at all. Immediately after the release of the first Captain America, he cast Chris Evans in the lead role in his 2013 post-apocalyptic sci-fi film Snowpiercer and it paid off handsomely: Evans was a revelation in Bong’s English-language debut, imbuing his character with the right balance of sentimentality and brutality.

And Bong’s next film – his follow-up to the incredible Parasite – will see him team up with another famous superhero actor in the form of Robert Pattinson. Following The Batman, the actor will work with Bong on an as-yet-untitled sci-fi project.

Holland, however, might be a bit busy in the future: “We’ve had conversations about the potential future of Spider-Man, but at the moment they are conversations,” he recently said in an interview when pressed on the possibility of further outings as Spider-Man.
