Windthorst's Friddle, Seymour's Charo named TSWA Class 2A first-team all-state

Windthorst senior Jayden Friddle and Seymour sophomore David Charo were voted first-team all-state by the Texas Sports Writers Association on Tuesday. Friddle and Charo were two of the 16 area Class 2A football players honored by the TSWA.

Four players were named second-team all-state, including Olney senior center Luis Marquez, Windthorst senior defensive lineman Eduardo Olivo Llamas, Archer City junior linebacker Gunner Smith and senior punter Colton Canada.

The third-team included Windthorst senior running back Haven Vieth and Archer City sophomore Elijah Jackson, who made the team as a utility player.

Windthorst's Jayden Friddle was voted first-team all-state by the Texas Sports Writer's Association.

Eight more players were given honorable mention, including Olney senior guard Haydon Carter, Petrolia junior receiver Gage Bowers, Archer City senior quarterback Ty Bates, Seymour sophomore quarterback Keegan Gilbreath, Olney junior fullback Jovani Rockmore, Windthorst senior defensive lineman Adrian Larios, Archer City senior defensive lineman Hudson Williams and Olney junior defensive back Cole Turner.

Shiner junior running back Dalton Brooks was voted Offensive Player of the Year after leading Shiner to the Division I state title. He rushed for 2,615 yards and 39 TDs.

Mart senior linebacker Da’Marion Medlock took Defensive Player of the Year honors with 256 tackles, six tackles for loss, two sacks, two interceptions and five fumble recoveries.

Coach of the Year went to Shiner’s Daniel Boedecker whose team claimed a second straight state title. Boedecker is 42-1 in three years at Shiner.
