Pixar announced that actresses Keke Palmer and Uzo Abuda will be joining the cast of “Lightyear,” — a spinoff of the studio’s popular movie, “Toy Story.”

Disney has already released the trailer for the movie, which features characters voiced by Keke Palmer, Dale Soules and Taika Waititi, James Brolin, Mary McDonald-Lewis, Efren Ramirez and Isiah Whitlock Jr.

Palmer announced the news of her new role on her social media:

“Every hero has a beginning. I am thrilled to go on an intergalactic adventure in Disney / Pixar’s #Lightyear!!!! I have always loved Buzz, I’m so excited I get to share the screen with him. Coming June 17, 2022,” she tweeted.

“Toy Story” made history in 1995 when it became the first entirely computer-generated full-length feature. “Toy Story 3” also broke a record by being the first animated film to gross over $1 billion at the box office.

“Buzz’s world was always something I was excited about,” said director Angus MacLane per Just Jared. “In ‘Toy Story,’ there seemed to be this incredible backstory to him being a Space Ranger that’s only touched upon, and I always wanted to explore that world further. So my ‘Lighytear’ pitch was, ‘What was the movie that Andy saw that made him want a Buzz Lightyear toy?’ I wanted to see that movie. And now I’m lucky enough to get to make it.”

“The cast for ‘Lightyear’ is truly a dream team,” MacLane added. “Each of the performers immediately inhabited their character, which gave us the opportunity to play a bit during recording sessions. This resulted in a level of specificity that elevated the material and brought additional depth to the characters’ relationships. It has been a privilege to work with such a talented and generous cast.”

We cannot wait!
