THE TOURNAMENT HONORING THE MEMORY OF FORMER PLAYER, THOMAS SHARKEY, WHO WAS JUST A SOPHOMORE WHEN HE LOST HIS LIFE IN A HOUSE FIRE BACK IN 20-11. Williams dominates event winning by eight strokes

Georgia Southern wrapped up the sixth playing of the Thomas Sharkey Individual Collegiate (formerly GS Individual Collegiate) at Georgia Southern University Golf Course on Monday.Georgia Southern senior Mason Williams fired a tournament-low 66 in the final round to win the event by eight strokes. It was Williams' second career win and sixth top-5 finish, and the senior was making his season debut after missing the fall campaign due to injury. Eight Eagles competed in the event among individuals from ETSU, Ohio State, Western Kentucky, USCB, Clemson, Virginia, Marshall, Kansas State, West Virginia, Tennessee and College of CharlestonFormerly called the GS Individual Collegiate, the Eagles renamed the event the Thomas Sharkey Individual Collegiate in 2021 to honor the memory of Sharkey, who played for the Eagles from 2009-11 and was tragically killed in a house fire in his native Scotland in the summer of 2011. Next up, Georgia Southern will travel to their first team event of the spring by competing in the Gator Invitational, hosted by Florida, contested Feb. 12-13 at Mark Bostick Golf Course.

Formerly called the GS Individual Collegiate, the Eagles renamed the event the Thomas Sharkey Individual Collegiate in 2021 to honor the memory of Sharkey, who played for the Eagles from 2009-11 and was tragically killed in a house fire in his native Scotland in the summer of 2011.
