Andy Katz reveals his team, player of the week in college basketball

Each Monday throughout the college basketball season, NCAA.com’s Andy Katz reveals his team of the week and player of the week based off the games that took place during the previous week. For this round of awards, Katz made his selections from games that took place Monday, Jan. 31-Sunday, Feb. 6.

Based off their performances last week, Katz has named Wyoming as his team of the week and IllinoisKofi Cockburn as his player of the week.

Here’s a look at how the team and player performed throughout the past week.

Andy Katz’s Team of the Week: Wyoming Cowboys

Wyoming has put together a strong season on the hardwood, as the team is now 19-3 overall and 8-1 in Mountain West play after a highly successful week of action – which included three wins over Colorado State, Boise State and Fresno State.

Led by the hot hand of senior guard Hunter Maldonado, who scored a combined 72 points over the three wins, the Cowboys beat Colorado State 84-78 in overtime last Monday, picked up a 72-65 win over Boise State on Thursday and then closed the week on Sunday by defeating Fresno State 61-59.

Wyoming is back in action Tuesday at home against Utah State, with tipoff scheduled for 9 p.m. ET.

Andy Katz’s Player of the Week: Kofi Cockburn, Illinois

Kofi Cockburn has had a big season for Illinois, as he’s currently averaging 21.8 points and 11.4 rebounds per game while shooting 60.3% from the field. Over the last week, Cockburn scored a combined 54 points to lead the Fighting Illini to a pair of wins against No. 11 ranked Wisconsin and Indiana.

In Illinois’ 80-67 win over Wisconsin, Cockburn poured in 37 points on 16-of-19 shooting to go along with 12 rebounds.

Cockburn and the No. 18 Fighting Illini are back on the court Tuesday in a marquee Big Ten road contest at No. 4 Purdue. Tipoff is scheduled for 9 p.m. ET on ESPN.
